Happy Veteran's Day to all of our Veterans in this community. Thank you for your service.
These pictures are a reminder that we came from humble beginnings. The space we walk into every day that is now our fitness sanctuary was nothing more than an empty space 2+ years ago. We started renovations the first week of August 2013 and 3+ months later we were vacuuming and mopping the floors until 10pm on a Sunday night as we finished up and got ready for our very first 5am class the next day on Monday, November 11, 2013. Happy 2nd Birthday CrossFit The Swamp!! It's been an incredible two years.
My life and my family's life is infinitely better with all of you in it on a daily basis. Thank you for building this community with us. Each and every one of you that shows up contributes to the overall health and goodness of this amazing, growing community of fitness freaks that walk through our doors every day. You are not only the heart of The Swamp, you are the lifeblood of CrossFit. WE are the lifeblood of CrossFit, not the people that you see on ESPN every summer. What you do every day before or after you go to work, grinding it out one WOD at a time, getting 1% better each day, cheering for the last athlete to finish, picking someone up that needs it, knowing that there will be pain and suffering....THAT is CrossFit. CrossFit is a journey and we are all on that journey together. Each and every time you retest a WOD, it's like going back to a place that you visited years before, with the memory only slightly faded. These are some of the reasons I love CrossFit.
The reason I love The Swamp is because of YOU. It's because of your personality. It's because you work hard. It's because you are fun to be around. It's because you are open-minded. It's because you are brave. It's because you treat people with respect. It's because you care. You have to care about being great if you want to do great things. We care about being a great affiliate and that starts with doing everything the right way. Do the common things uncommonly well. You don't have to be an elite Games-level athlete to be a great CrossFitter. You just have to do things right, and strive to be perfect. It will most likely never happen for any of us, but you have to demand higher standards if you want to improve and be a better human being. You guys do this on multiple levels, on a daily basis, and it's one of the many reasons I love all of you.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't silently thank all of you for allowing me to live my dream of not having a real job. The reality is that most of the time it does not feel like a job. That makes me lucky and I know that. I am grateful. It just feels like me opening up my door to a bunch of friends that come in and work out. And that's pretty cool. You guys are my friends, and I care about each and every one of you. I think about you and your well-being more than you will ever realize or know. Thank you for being loyal to The Swamp, to us, and thank you for the commitment that you demonstrate each and every day. This Shit Works. Just Show Up.
We would not be here without you. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much.
